I used to work as an FCP editor and all media was stored on external drives connected by FW800. Most of the media was broadcast quality DVCpro and it always worked without a glitch, so you shouldn't have any trouble..FW400 or USB2 should work okay too, but if you've got FW800, use it. Does it also happen when you perform/play the part where it happens directly or with only a short amount of leading time? And are you maybe using the same media in another project?
