As I said there are several modules that do just that.
Media chopper has fixed trigger points but movie scratch (layer) has 3 customisable trigger points.

What do you mean by this? You want to trigger clips not in your media set??
Regarding the rest there's plenty of modules that do what you want - scratch one, media chopper etc
i read in another thread that midi channels 1-10 are relate to those layers,so have avoided using them but having the same problem still.. I don't know where you got this from but I don't think it's true! Regarding the other stuff check your modules and your MIDI mapping, it's an erratic behaviour....
I found a strange bug while messing about with the module yesterday.
Basically changing to layer set 8 on bank A of the main interface switched of layers 7 and 8, very strange. I'll post more info when I have any more findings.
If you are in fullscreen output they might be under your output it's happened to me before so it's worth a look. Otherwise you can try deepvisual's favourite: trash the preferences.
subtle sounds affecting video dramatically = non subtle sounds affecting the video EXTRA DRAMATICALLY, bear this in mind. To do this just turn everything up! You'll have to experiment with the audio analysis preferences within modul8 but I'm afraid that it sounds like what you want to achieve would ...
