    Modul8 performance

    by videoteque » Thu Mar 01, 2007 12:04 am

    Hi to all!

I waited for Modul8 until it had more effects, I was coming from Resolume and I admit I like to use simple clips and a/effect them live.

I use Modul8 2.52 in an iMac 17" Core 2 Duo. It's INCREDIBLE. I can play 3 DV clips from the internal hard disk with several effects each and the CPU meter arrives only to 50%!!! I don't try more than 4 layers because the hard disk makes strange noises... I would love to use HD!!!!

Reading the forum there seems some people complain about memory usage. I have 1 Gb and it seems ok. I hope Modul8 uses as much RAM as possible, what do I have to do with RAM if not using it??

My only complain is that after several hours the performance decreases... I don't know why but it should be nice if there was a button to "refresh" the Mac but without stop playing??

Two things I would love is that effects could be also added to the whole output, not just one layer. Not that I loose sleep over, though. And the other is that the Modul8 team helps other Freeframe developers to port to Mac... :D

I still have a lot of things to try, but I wanted to congratulate the Modul8 team!!!! Continue to make it better!!! :P :P :P

I too have been having problems lately with decreased performance over time. It just seems that after I work with the same project for a while, it just gets really sluggish and loading clips already in the media bank) can take some serious time.

Most of my clips are anywhere between 6 MB and 80 MB, with most residing somewhere in the middle. MJpeg 65% to 75% quality, 30 FPS.

I am on a Macbook Pro 2.16 GHz Core Duo with 2 GB ram.
