As you will see the module architecture offers a perfect solution to add this kind of control over Modul8. It allows users to create very easily their own sound sync. tools and share them. And, of course, we are going to create a couple of modules for this very special purpose ourself and publish them online after the release of the V2.0. A tap tempo function for example can be implemented pretty easily.

It was definitively making more sens to implement the module system now - because it gives users the opportunity to extend Modul8 with their own visions (like better sound syncing). Wait to play with it and see the libraries of modules arriving.

Yes. There will be a developer documentation.

Basically you can connect your module to any control of Modul8 or to a couple of direct layer values (like position, angle, scale, etc.).

So. Correct me if I am wrong.

I can write a module in python wich will
    - Register the time between two taps of a button
    - Compare 4 of them and take the average value
    - Do math on the value -divide by 4, 8 or 16- controlled by a UI element/midi
    - Create multiple instance af these values
    - Route these values as input for any effect or control for the player/layers

Please tell me this will be possible. I will be directly ordering my first python book at amazon. And I will do a little dance for you. And order Modul8 right away!

Yes, you can do that. So send me a video with your little dance now!

Please note that you can find a full documentation of Python here:

    http://www.python.org/doc/

In the meantime, you can play with Python directly in the shell. Simply write "python" as a command line and boom! you are in the interactive interpreter. Not as cool as the Modul8 V2.0 integrated environment, but it is a good start.

    2.0 ColorKey/Chromakey Support

    by jnevin » Mon Nov 29, 2004 11:07 pm

First, many compliments to garageCUBE for what looks to be an exciting 2.0 product!

I'm hoping that 2.0 will give us a way to use the ColorKey(Chromakey) tool so that it will key out, completely, a color range. For example, it would let me identify a range of blue colors that it will key on, making any pixels whose color falls into that range 100% transparent. This is the way chromakey needs to work in the real world, where it is not possible to generate a background that is uniformly blue, or green, or other color.

The "roll your own" scriptable module seems like it might do the trick, but details were lacking.

    Will I have my wish?

    Thanks again!

Well, we know that chromakey support is a missing feature of Modul8 and we really want to fix that. Unfortunately it won't be implemented in the V2.0 and scripts won't allow you to do that either due to our schedule.

During the next development cycle, we will focus on the pixel level of the media with Freeframe support, Tiger's CoreImage and new filters like chromakeys. We are moving pretty fast with Modul8, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

Let me say in advance that I'm a complete ass for asking this but I just can't help myself (I am SO DAMN excited about 2.0)...

Are we going to see the beta soon?

    (G Mint: ducking for cover)

Like I've said before, you guys are SO incredible! Please don't take my questions as rude or annoying, for M8 I'm impatient in a good way (like a little kid looking forward to Christmas). On the other hand I'm impatient in a VERY BAD way at Native Instruments for the minor update of Traktor that we've been waiting a YEAR for and has already been pushed back a month... But I digress.

Speaking of Motion Dive Tokyo... it features something I find EXTREMELY helpful: a little tracking bar that shows where on the clips timeline it's currently playing (think of the little triangle used for queing in Quicktime). I would place this track bar on each layer, directly under the transparency slider. Any chance of implementing this by the 2.0 release?

    Cheers,
    Justin

P.S. Apologies if you don't know what the hell I'm talking about... I can email a pic if need be.

Well, we are also very excited by the V2.0 and we really want to release the beta ASAP. The date is not fixed at this time, but it should not be too long...

    Performance?

    by BrainDamage » Thu Dec 09, 2004 2:56 am

I'm impressed with the preview of V.2 but what about the performance?
Will it work nicely with my iBook 933 at 512megs of ram?
And as jm302's wrote, something like MDT's time bar would be a really useful gadget.

Well, we are trying to optimize the V2.0 as much as we did for the V1.0. Of course there is some new features that can be a little bit heavier than what we had in the precedent version (the patch for example).

We did not change the target machine and we are testing all the time the new version on this target.

There will be new features that are heavier on the machine, but will all the old ones work as before?

Through work I have found a couple of suggestions... like rearranging of clips in the media set. Sometimes one leaves holes between and it's not comfortable to have to delete stuff and rearrange like that! Can we get a "drag and drop" facility in Edit mode to put the clips where we want?

I had another one but I forgot it :P
