I had something bad going on between M8, camera input via firewire and a little app called iGlasses http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/
which resulted in continuous ' video capture waiting...' in M8 - and 'another app is using your camera' in other apps wanting to use the camera.
After a few tries of trying to start-up M8 and get video camera input working, M8 V2.2 would open with its default layer showing but that layer was 'turned off' and could not be turned-on or used - all other layers I added were also 'turned off' and unusable.
This was live of course, but the beta worked well all evening after I found out the hard way that trying to import more than 4 clips at a time was a bad idea!
I have un-installed iGlasses & re-installed M8 V2.2 from back-up and it works perfectly again, all layers usable and functional.
The original install of M8 V2.2 still has all layers turned-off on start-up? There was no crash but the app would not quit, needed force quit.
Using iBook G4 OS10.4.6.
