    matrix 3d shapes

    by globalsocialite » Fri Dec 01, 2006 6:38 pm

I am in the market for VJ software. I was looking at the tour of Modul8 online. I would like to know more information on the matrix options.

I noticed in the sample video that this software can take a video and apply it to a cube , then multiply the cube into several cubes and then change the x, y, and z axis. I see Modul8 can rotate all cubes around a central axis point moving all cubes in the same direction. Can the axis point also be for each cube itself...rotating each cube in place, then rotating all cubes as a whole too?

Also, are there other shapes such as cylindars and spheres to add the videos too?

I will be ordering a new mac book pro this month specifically for the purpose of VJ. I cannot download the demo at this time.

you can map a video on a sphere or a cylinder but it's an other effect than matrix, you cannot mix the two things... also for rotating cubes, there are no options for the moment to rotate cubes individually.

great to hear about mapping vids to shapes other than cubes.

Can I also multiply the cylinders and alter x,y,z axis?

You can't directly multiply the cylinders in a matrix (AFAIK) but you can indeed adjust XYZ axis.

HOWEVER, you can use multiple video layers to create multiple cylinders, each with the same or different media clip sources. and move them in 3D space to create a "matrix" of cylinders, or spheres for that matter. You can't get the massive matrix of 5x5x5 spheres, but at least you could have 5 of them exisiting together in different spatial positions.

Funny, I'd never thought of doing that until just now. I've always kept spheres centered. There is so much that's possible with Modul8, the real limitation is more in connecting our imagination with the interface, not the limitation of the interface.
