    Flash 5 ?

    by LionsRest » Wed Dec 06, 2006 6:24 pm

    Flash 5?? Seriously?
Is there any hope of being able to use newer versions?
It's a really limiting thing for me.

I think you can use other versions of flash but the .swf must be uncompressed

I did some testing, and you're right, to a point.

I was able to get a simple animation to work even when publishing for Flash Player 8 and Actionscript 2. As soon as I added a bit of static text with a drop shadow (a new feature introduced in Flash 8 ) it failed to work in M8.
I don't have the time to compile a list of which features work and which don't. I'm sure, with my luck, I'll pick ones that don't pretty often.

    Thanks, BTW.

actually, the fact is that modul8 can handle flash files that are readable by quicktime so it's not a limitation of modul8, it's a limitation of quicktime... maybe for the v3, modul8 won't work with quicktime for that kind of things 8)

    That's it! ... I think.

Strange thing is, a test I tried with the static text using the drop shadow originally failed to play at all in M8. I tried that SWF in Quicktime, and it played the animation, but didn't display the text. I went back to M8, and this time it did the same thing Quicktime did, play the animation but not display the text with the drop shadow.

It almost has to be some thing I did or didn't do that made it behave differently.

Had I'd known Quicktime can actually play SWF files  , I would have picked up on the way they worded the documentation for M8 and realized as long as Quicktime can play it, it should work in M8.

    Thank you!!!! :)
