OK. I played around with Modul 8 a little more recently and picked up on a couple pretty minor things that might use some improvement. This time I had a chance to try it out with a BCR-2000 and issues that seemed apparent when assigning functions to that unit mostly dealt with the way Modul 8 requires selection of data.

Layer Sets and Media Sets are only selectable directly by number. It may seem impractical but the option to select via back and forward arrows might be preferable in some cases. For Layer Sets, one sort of has to keep track of what each set is anyway, so direct access is fine, but for Media, partricularly if this is going to be expandible in the future, Back and Forward buttons are the preferable way to do this.

Similarly it would be nice if the preview window was accessable and selectable with midi OR keystrokes.

That said, layer position X and Y also accessable with MIDI would be cool.

Thanks!! Will be buying soon for sure!!! Also thinking about being an affiliate here in Japan. Regards,

Yes that seems easy to make it with a module.
Now you can use the TOPARROW and BOTTOMARROW keys.

    Yes I agree.
Also, we will probably add this feature in the next version 2.0

Yes it will be possible with the modules !

    A couple more BIG ONES...

    by chromafresh » Tue Dec 14, 2004 1:54 pm

This is kind of a major one, but Modul8 seems to number its layers in the order they are created and and not their position in the composition. For future releases I would strongly suggest that "layer positions" have their own numbers, like 01-10, and not the layers themselves.
This is especially important if, like me, one is trying to access layers with a MIDI controller. In the case of the BCR-2000 there are is a row of 8 depressable knobs on the top of the machine, and it seems most logical to assign:
    1) layer access to the "button" function of the knob
    2) and layer opacity to the "turning" function of the knob

What happens now is that the knobs are assigned directly to layers and therefore if one changes the layer order, the knobs lose their logical order. It becomes impossible to confirm which layer the knob will access after changing layer order a couple times.

The interface itself might even show the layer numbers 01-10... this would be very helpful for assigning MIDI functionality.

OK. Here's big one number two:

    As it is:
If a layer is on, even with zero opacity, the software appears to be processing the layer. There are occasions when it is preferable to have layers off, with zero opacity
like on "standby." When doing this with multiple layers, machine performance seems to suffer.

Would it be reasonable to suggest that zero opacity is treated as "off" in terms of memory management, and that the act of changing opacity to anything above 0 will turn the layer "on?"
    Just an idea.

    Thanks as always!

Yes, will be in version the V 2.0...

Well, I also thought about it.
We will probably add this in the version 2.0 or a in a next version...

I've got to say that I completely agree with chromafresh. I've got the BCR and have it setup the same way. I fully second the assesment of problems and solutions suggested!
