New to the site and new to Modul8. I am just about finished building my first MODUL8 VJ RIG. I have been reading through the forums and have learned some great things and am excited to try them out. I wanted to run the system I am in the process of building past some of you gurus to see if I could get some feedback from those of you who really know.

I will be honest I come from the world of PC and have been running Resolume for the past year and half and before that DVD Players and a Panasonic MX50(which I still use.)

However I feel Confident and am excited to delve into the world of MAC! Here are the specs of the system I have chosen as the platform.

2X2.00 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
4GB 667 DDR2 FB DIMM ECC-4x1GB
3xNVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB
500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s drive
16x SuperDrive DL
Airport Extreme
Apple Keyboard & Mighty Mse
Mac OS X

2XHANNs.G (19 inch widescreen)

Still to purchase:

2x 5500 Lumenz SANYO PLC-XP57L
2x 3000 Lumens SANYO PLC-XU48
4 VGA Xtenders
SONY DVD VCR COMBO

KRAMER VS-812 8 INPUT 1 OUTPUT VIDEO SWITCH
http://www.kramerelectronics.com/indexes/item.asp?name=VS-812
This switch will be used to connect outside sources as well as live camera feeds into a video capture card on the MAC.

For capturing video into MAC I read a suggestion on here for the BlackMagic Design DECK LINK would be a good solution. The delay that seems to be caused by firewire would be unacceptable. I owuld love to hear about other solutions as well.

For Midi I want to have a fairly robust solution as I would like to cue some video clips and special effect from a LEPRECON X48 DMX Console as well as a pair of MIDI controllers for LIVE. Here are the 2 devices i have picked out:

comments feedback?
Vestax VCI100 DJ Midi Controller
http://www.vestax.com/v/products/players/vci100.html

M-AUDIO EVOLUTION UC-33e
http://www.evolution-i.net/products/evo_uc33e.htm
I was hoping to piggyback both controllets to run different functions of the programs.

Initially I will be pushing 4 screens configured so that 2 center will be compbined into a videowall while the two outside screens will most often mirror each other but have the flexibility to have different content.

I also will have a small monitor for the switch.

Comments suggestions any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I also will contine to read all your great posts and learn as much as I can that way. I will keep you all updated on the projects progress as well.

this is really a nice rig man ! iactually bought a 3ghz/2xquadxeon/2xnvidia
what about the decklink does it work properly ?
did you test it already ? you will loose 2 outputs if u install that, wont you ?
did you find a way to connect ur dmx desk via dmx to modul8 ?
i still use midi but i would like to use dmx strongly.
i dont need midi devices because i need to program the light and video cues
into my desk (hog2) together for accurat timing (and not to forget anything of course)
:)
i mostly do multiprojections on events, including the contentdesign and lightdesign

modul 8 is a great piece of software, it needs some features like softedge and
better mediaacessability but u can do alot with modules. see my version of the
BigMediaKeyboard, i added a crossfader so u can fade ur clips, its called
the BigMediaPlaylist module

so keep up going with modul8 and have fun !

greets

mike

ahh hah actually i saw some pioneer DVDJ's and I wanted something that would emulate the effect...I would love to hear what other solutions have been found for interfacing with Midi I have hardly scratched the surface for this type of control

it dpends on what you want to do, as so often...

for me its ok to trigger single buttons in some modules, which play media
in certain size, pos, layer, etc. so everything is preprogramed and midi triggered
by the hog (the lightdesk)
but when you do live vjing the vestax is a powerfull piece of hardware i guess,
but also the uc33 does its job perfectly, its perhaps just not so "sophisticated"..

I got the mac pro intoday and succesfully installed modul8 and setup my first video wall application (for testing i am just sending to a pair of 19" screens) I have to say it's only taken me a few minutes to learn my way around it on a basic level and I immediatly get the feeling that this machine is handling everything i am throwing at it easily. Initial impression very very pleased.

The midicontrollers are ment to serve a two point purpose:

1: Prerendered media and effects triggered via midi and a lighting console

2: Live VJ control while processing for live entertainment.

That's why I was including both styles in my initial design.

I will probably hold off on the turntable midi controller until I have a little bit more experience running the program so that I can have a better evaluation to what will give me the control types that I want.

update: I still have not bought my video capture solution yet either..... I am still a little undecided... It would be nice to save the slot to add a 4th card later.
