As many may already know Apples new 'Tiger' OS (what a shit name...) includes core video (much the same as core audio). have the lovely super heros Boris and Yves been considering this in future versions? from the apple keynote in october it looked amazing and potentially revolutionary for the VJ community. Also what is the concensus on H.264 codec compared to photo-jpeg for Modul8 in future v's?

Of course, we are very excited by CoreVideo and we already started to study it. We really want to integrate this technolgy in Modul8.
Regarding H.264, did not have the time to try it yet. Also we are under NDA regarding all the Tiger stuff...

Yes. Maybe you can also access the API through Java too - not sure about that. Anyway I'm sure some people will write bridges to other languages (like Python).

Now that Tiger's been out for a while, any reports on H.264 codec performance compared to Photo JPG?
Cheers,

For live manipulation, Photo JPG is still the preferred choice because it does not compress over time. H.264 could be a good solution as long as you simply read a high res long movie from disk. As soon as you start changing the rate, the play direction or scratch the movie, performances are much lower than Photo JPG.
