Is it possible to record video input directly into Modul8 for instant playback and scratching/FX like it is in VidVox/VDMX5? This would be great?

Yes and no

First, I know almost knowing about VidVox/VDMX5. I tried it did not like it and bought Modul8.

Second, the way I see it there are many options for doing what your talking about, but more description in your post would make it easier to answer. I am also guilty of this.

Modul8 does accept firewire input that can become a layer and tweaked with almost all the goodies in Modul8 like any layer. Although the type and speed of your Firewire bus may impart an unacceptable delay, depending on your needs. Even Final Cut Pro is not a real time encode there is a slight delay unless your working with a Black Magic card or something of that sort.

Are you talking about live video with perfect timing or quick samples from any Analog video source? If the later is what your talking about I use Quicktime Pro to capture video to a file then import into my project. If the low res QT quality is a deal breaker programs like BTVPro do a great job. If your quick you can get a loop in a minute or two.

You stated record in your post which I take literally meaning separate from the logically record of all layers as the video input for Modul8 is more of a passthrough.

Basically i'm looking for a way to quickly take 'grabs' of a video input stream (from an iSight or a FireWire Camera) and have this immediately accessible from within modul8, in the clip library. VDMX does this by in the video input window having a 'record' button which literally digitizes and captures the live input, and then puts the clip directly in the clip library for immediate use. This is handy for live-ish scratching and manipulation - not quite as good as an input buffer, but in the same area.

What i'd like it to be possible to kind of 'live looping' for video, so quick fire video samples that could be looped and triggered.

I'm not a VDMX owner, but have played with the demo and it does excel in certain areas (modularity being one of them), but the modul8 interface is clearer and simper and additional its optional library add-ons are certainly better.
