    wishlist - alias import

    by Donleavy » Fri Jan 04, 2008 11:18 pm

    Hey there

I would like to suggest that future versions of Modul8 are able to import aliases (shortcuts). If that was possible, you could prepare movies for a gig without having to reorganize your existing folders.

I don't know if this is allowed but former Modul8 guru Yves is working on a program called AntZero Atomic View. This program, when completed, should allow for easy cataloging of media and exporting of all needed files to another folder. This program looks like a needed solution for all media types. I mention this as I have dealt with shortcuts before and it can quickly become very frustrating.

The reason why I want to use shortcuts is that I don't want to have several copies of my movies cluttering up my drive. If modul8 could import shortcuts it would allow me to have my usual folders with clips and then additional folders in which shortcuts to clips from different folders could be placed.

Example: If I was to VJ to an event with the theme "the colour red", I could make a folder called "red", and in that folder I could have shortcuts to all the red clips I have, thus avoiding to duplicate or rearranging my clips. During the gig, I could then easily access the red clips.

a "Modul8 Can't find clips for project.....would you like me to search for them?" function would be great.

So, I finally tried AntZero Atomic View.
This is exactly what I have been looking for.
    Highly recommendable!

So how do you integrate AntZero Atomic View with Modul8? Can you give an example of how you use it?

the easy answer to this is to keep your m8 showfile in the same folder as your clip folder.

I have a m8 HDD with shows and clips that I can swap from machine to machine...

What DeepVisual notes here is key. Staying organized is healthy in any production environment. Granted that Adobe After Effects has a media collector that makes things easy for optimizing projects. We do have a media collector in the works.

Until then its best to stay on top of your files and directories. Like DeepVisual I keep all of my performance stuff in one folder with a folder for each project within it.
