Hello
After reading almost every post about multiprojection i still have some questions, or maybe better, some experience tips are wanted. I'm looking for a powerful tool which is able to handle high resolution with 4-6 Projections. Here is my setup and the question related to it:

This is my setup:
1 x 2,6 Ghz quad MacPro - 3 GB
4 graphic cards
internal SATA Harddrive
6 Projectors
1 Controllmonitor

As i read here, the best way to manage more projections in modul8 is, to render one large movie and split it do the 6 projectors.
So far, no problem....
but. it should be 720p resolution, or at least 1024x768 per projector.
That gives me in the second case a movie with 6144x768 pixels.

1. is it ok to render one movie with all the material in one row? --> 6144 width or is it better trying to arrange the 6 channels on one canvas, like 3072x1536 ?
2. my major problem is, that this movie should be around 6 hours for an art live performance....

has anybody some tips and experience with such a long projections with 6 channels....

i built a 6144x768 pixels test movie about 30 sec. with photo jpg compressor at max quality, giving me a 2,4gb file wich wasn't loaded in, after about 10 min.. so i gave up at the moment.

I'm appreciate every kind of experience tips, or also some tips for other systems if modul8 can't handle this...

thank you very much
andy

Maybe h.264 would be a better codec, as you just play it (no scratching, or weird stuff) and it will be smaller. It will cost more cpu power though.
Further I haven't got any experience with multi projection things, sorry.

i think its not possible to play smooth high quality movies at this size.
you have hiccup and jitter with a single pal movie(res:768x576) playing with macbook pro dualcore 2.3 GHz (fotojpg75%)
if your tagret framerate is not the crucial point, you can give modul8 a try. it is more a app for fast vj clips.

Modul8 can handle big files but that doesn't mean your system can. You will need a ride array of disk to output such files.

pixel for pixel at that size is crazy.
make you content at least 50% of the final size and upscale it.
you'll find the antialias works fine.

Try the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC)

And use a software Raid0 and you will be fine

I've played HD clips with no problems!

you have to use solid state disks or better raid 2 of them together !
the harddisc access time is the botleneck of most systems.
i would also recommend the ai codec.
