Hi there, right now i have this machine, and i use it to VJ with Modul8:

A friend of mine its about to buy it, and i plan to buy a new ibook.. G4 1.25ghz with that nice radeon9200 card..

Its a good bet? It will work better than my current PoBo? What about Modul8 performance in this machine?

And no, i dont have the money to buy a new PoBo.. i plan to buy one the next year.. it all depends of how well my gigs give me money :)

Thats all, i hope you guys can help!

Cheers!

If you go for the ibook you'll really miss the dual-head graphics and svideo out on the powerbook.

i wouldn't apply this hack on a new ibook as it will probably invalidate the warranty

and could damage your nice new laptop

the hack will be no trouble

no damage

you shouldn't worry, I installed it on my ibook and all my "geek" friends using an ibook used this... I works fine...

it's a software not hardware...

I installed the hack on my iBook with kernel panics galore.
So there definetly is a chance that it leads to ... fear, anger and even suffering.

BTW: Once you go pBook, you don't go back ;)

I wen't back to an Ibook from a powerbook and it works great for vj-ing with the hack with wich I never had any problems and if you read the forums from the hack almost nobody is experiencing trouble. And none of my many friends with the hack on it have problems.

What you get with an Ibook over a powerbook is a much much stronger machine wich can take more wear and tear than the more powerful but weaker build powerbooks (remember is made with student in mind and backpacks, a thing powerbooks are'nt really suited for in my own experience). This is the main reason why I choose for an Ibook it just is way more road worthy for people like me who carry their laptops to the stranged places all the time. (I went through two titanium powerbooks before I bought the Ibook)

I would say the best thing about pbs is the enhanced graphics card over the iBook 32Mb card. I'd go for 128 Mb. But I would get an iBook now and wait for the intel laptops next year.
