Inserting text

Am new to this and still on demo , can anyone tell me how do i insert text. well when i click on the text icon i don't see anything appear.
you have to create a layer, select it and after click on the text (in the SP tab).
This text will appear on the screen :
"hello, you can change this text with the module system"
Look at the 'TeXT (layer)' chapter on the documentation ...
