Can Modul8 generate visuals without media?

Hi, i'm looking for some software for a project that requires live generated visuals controlled/seeded by midi.

I don't know much about Modul8 – is it capable of generating visuals on its own or does it require film/images to output anything?

Thanks

one way is to use the painter module.

Cheers, how does painter work? What does it do exactly?

with the painter module you can paint lines, rects and dots with the mouse.
you also can use the camera input or the noise generator.

camera input would be the easy and most creative. You can hold 3D objects or drawings or photos on the cam. There are endless possibilities for abstract visual. Try this with Transformer tools like Matrix where you flip the screens (FFFF) or Particles or Patch where you can do a lot with Thickness and Disp. Map.

Just using the testcard and patch you can create sound reactive visuals

last but not least there's the text modul... as any other layer it could be easily animated with built in fx...

and in combination with some dingbat fonts could generate some nice graphics...

funny thread, this was an idea I had for a bonus vj contest at the mapping festival here in geneva. The goal would be to use modul8 as you get it when you download it. no medias, no controllers, no online library

I'll keep you informed if this will happend.

I will be releasing a more advanced text module soon that can change fonts randomly (to the beat) from a premade list among other things. This could be triggered by midi too of course.

I just need a few spare hours to finish up some buttons. When I will find these spare hours is another question...

refering to the text module.. one thing i forget to mention..

you should modify the value range for the knob controlling the text size..
default is 10 to 100.. if you change this to max maybe 400 you get crispy sharp fonts..

just a small step in the module editor but in this case size matters..
