Howdy,

I got new V2.5 and if i import clips (.mov), the computer turn on like a lingering snake. I mean, he (new macbook) starts to think and film clips won't work correctly, they skip frames etc.

What's the problem?
Is it program problem or computer?
(I mean, computer is good and free room about 50 GB)

Hope you know the answer.

What codec are your clips?

some of them H.264 and other Apple DV - PAL
is it a problem?

. h.264 can use a *lot* of processor power, especially for larger (720x640 or HD) clips.. DV is similarly unwieldy for some situations

. most vj forums (and myself) recommend Motion JPEG-B at 85% for best performance.

Actually we recommend Photo JPEG at 75%. PNG with alpha for foreground elements (background transparency).

I have work with this configuration some times:
1:30 min video
2400X600 pxl video size
with audio stereo 16bit, 48kHz.
codec MotionJPEG 85%
Running thru Matrox TH2G from a MBP with a Lacie FW800 HDD and works nice on Modul8.

too many clips on too many layers is usually the problem.

you have to find a balance between how much RAM and vram your computer has, how fast your hard drive is and how many layers/tabs you can have active at any one time.

I keep it all on one page and it never lags.

H.264 is extremely heavy load on your processor to decompress. It's not a good choice for live visuals IMHO. It's fine for playing back a movie (single stream) - even in HD.. But for multiple layers which may be processed or transformed, you need a very fast CPU and GPU and tons of RAM to decompress H.264 effectively.

and i have one question more
if i'm playing videos, than in the "player" (where i see all the videos if i want) i have little crop box (like casing) and it won't show correct picture (cropped from edges).
I hope you got it what i mean.

Maybe someone can help, i have rehearsal tomorrow.

I think if you do a search you'll find some articles relating to the differences between Photo JPEG and Motion JPEG.. But the best thing to do is to compress a few movies into both CODECs and see which works best for you. Consider two things: Are you happy with how it looks, and does the CODEC you chose meet your technical needs - does it play back properly.

I use Photo JPEG at about 90% because I like how it looks and it plays back very nicely in Modul8, even with 10 streams running (although I rarely have more than 4 going at any given time). Hope this helps!
