Hi guys, any one knows if the

VESTAX VCI-100 DJ MIDI CONTROLLER

or maybe other vestax midi would work with the new modul8?

I plan to get a midi controller and I would like to get a vestax
so I can use it for DJ ing too.

It will work but do not count on the jog wheels working without making a module.

VCM-600 does not have a jogwheel, and I am not sure if I need one for the Modul8. Do I?

Whether you need jog wheels or not for modul8 is your call, are you going to scrub video?
The VCM-600 looks like a beautiful beast, a bit pricey though. If they made it with 8 or 10 channels I could be tempted, it's lacking triggering interface for clips though.

yes I have found the codanova vj, that would be my other choice, especially if you say it's really good.
In the other hand I want something with the dual purpose, also for DJ ing too. Maybe I want too much? LOL.
I love vestax brand, I had their mixers before I went Pioneer, and now I think to go totally digital, if so i would like to go with sturdy and beautiful vestax. But maybe I should think two laptops, with two controllers? Trying to cut paying for two. right now I need a peace only for modul8 I got the DVJ-X1 s for playing out.

The codanova is good for djing too. I do AV using a single controller and two laptops networked together running Torq and Modul8. I have to say that TheVCM-600 looks mint but it is expensive although at the same time better built than the codanova. The codanova's construction isn't particularly good but it is very tough and will withstand a lot of rough treatment. On the other hand its MIDI parameters are fixed and this can be an issue in certain situations.

Codanova is not as sexy but can take a beating and with the lower price tag that can't be so bad.

I met some Drum & Bass guys using the Codanova for their gigs. Funny considering it was designed for VJing. You might want to check out their other offerings as well...

Personally I am not a big fan of the jog dials. I have put the codanova through its paces now and then and used the jog dial module we have and found myself never really using it. For scratching video I was much more into the sliders just below the dials. Very smooth.

I have the VCI-100 but never used it live with Modul8. I tried it once at home when I just got it but I would never dream of carrying it to a gig because it weights a ton. Then I rather bring my Behringer BCF2000 since it has a more useful layout.

As for a digital DJ mixer the VCI-100 is totally ok. I used it with Traktor and it has worked very well. The weight is a problem but also means that it's steady. You will need an external sound card to make it work propperly. I suggest you look in to the VCI-300 that has a built in sound card and some other nice features. I got a small firewire soundcard/Midi interface for my VCI-100 but I'm sure you can do well with a USB sound card.

A suggestion: get the VCI-100 or 300 for DJ-ing and get a cheap Korg Nano Keys for Modul8. The Nano Keys could double as extra buttons for your DJ program as well. The Nano Keys isn't a perfect unit but it super small if you want a tight kit.

Probably not, the VCI-100 seems to be a bit smaller. I've only seen the Codanova live once and I never got to lift it (yes, I do like to lift midi controllers).

hi, are there any more tips for using a vestax vci-100? i got one from a friend and i'd love to use it for the jog wheels but those seem to be exactly what's wrong with using it. is there a module out for using that controller? and if not, could i get a few tips for making that module? what would i need to do, exactly?
