    Still Image Exploration Question

    by bergland » Wed Aug 12, 2009 6:28 pm

I am a newcomer to Modul8 as well as to the whole VJing enterprise. I am experiencing a phenomenon in Modul8 that might just be a consequence of my inexperience.

Let me see if I can articulate this in a way that can be easily visualized.

First, what I am doing is “exploring” Modul8 at this point. How I have set up this exploration (below) may seem quite immature or primitive to those of you with more experience in this area. I am currently only experimenting with “still images” in the Media Banks.

I have 5 Media Banks filled with still images (16 per bank x 5 banks = 85 still images in total).

I have 5 Layer Banks. Each Layer Bank consists of one layer with some attached FX parameters (rotate, particles, etc.). Each of the 5 Layer Banks has a different set of attached FX parameters.

One of that ways I was hoping to explore this particular setup was to select an image from one of the Media Banks, and then alter its motion appearance by clicking through Layer Banks (1-5), i.e.,

    1. Select a Media Bank (1-5)
    2. Select an individual image (1-16) in that Bank
    3. Alter its motion sequences by clicking through various Layer Banks (1-5)

As I click through Media Banks (1-5), I want to stay on the selected image (in the selected Media Bank). But what happens when I click through Media Banks (1-5) is that Module8 correspondingly (seemingly) leaps through random Media Banks, and (seemingly) random images within those banks. I find I cannot select an image in an image bank and then simply click through the Layer Banks (hoping to stay on that selected image).

Is this a result of my not processing something correctly within the program (or within this particular setup)?

    Thanks

    Don

    yup its pilot error.

the app isn't designed to work in that way.

first set up ten layers of effects etc..
then find the vs set media layers module. this lets you put the same image into lots of layers at the same time.

then just turn the layer visibility buttons on and off... you can even do that automatically with the layer sequencer module.
