    . anyone using soundflower 1.5.1 on os x 10.6.2 ?

    by anomad » Wed Jan 06, 2010 2:30 am

. i'm working on an audio-based effects module and need to get soundflower running on my 10.6.2 machine (i've used this method extensively on a 10.5. macbookpro)

. so, i installed the soundflower 1.5.1 from google code just fine, switched my outputs around so line in/out were being sent to soundflower 2ch and saw audio comming in (via the sound system prefs) and could hear the audio coming out of the speakers attached to my motu828.

. here's where it gets weird - i launch modul8 v2.6 and the sound cuts off! all the routings are the same, but no sound. i go ahead and restart, now soundflower doesn't work at all. no system crashes or messages in the console.

    . is anyone else running soundflower/mac os x 10.6.2/modul8 ?

    Hello james,

when starting Modul8 2.6 is changing the volume (to 0) of the default input audio device.
When you change the soundin volume in Modul8 (lower right in the main UI) it will change the system preferences of the input audio device. But if you do nothing, it will stay at 0.

So perhaps, the problem comes from there ?

    Regards.

    . hello david,

. i checked the sound volume - this cut off all audio on the system... not just audio into modul8.

. afterwards - soundflower didn't work at all.

My experiences with soundflower running on my MacBook Pro (last of the aluminum) and using system 10.6.1 is that it tends to cut out after a while. I have not had a chance to find an alternative software to replace it.

    @ a nomad:

Got 10.6.2 and modul8 2.6.1 and Soundflower works well.

    Soundflower 2 Ch on Build-In

    Systempreferences Sound-In Soundflower 2Ch and Soud-Out Soundflower 2 Ch

Make a newstart, start modul8 and turn Sound-In on.

    For me it works.

Does it not lose the signal after a bit? How long of a period were you running it?

After 40 minutes there are no problems.

Guess I'll have to upgrade the system and see if that improves the situation.

. following up on my own thread

    by anomad » Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:01 am

. i think i figured out why soundflower was cutting out my audio

. i setup sound flower normally (running out to a motu 828) then would launch modul8 v2.6.1 - and the sound would cut out completely!

. it turns out, if i adjust the 'sound level in' from modul8, it would bring the volume up on my motu as well! weird! (on my other modul8 system running 10.5 - the volume stays constant)

. so if i'm running soundflower, launch modul8 and turn the 'sound level in' all the way off - i cannot hear any audio from my computer running iTunes. when i quit modul8 - there is still no audio. if i restart iTunes - no audio. if i relaunch modul8, turn the 'sound level in' to where i can hear audio again then quit - iTunes can once again control the volume level normally.

    that's normal.

since 2.6, modul8 sound input level is linked to your system sound input level. So if the sound is saturated in the system preferences, when you lower the sound input it's not only lowering the saturated sound, it's lowering the whole thing so you can get a clean value.

Had problems with sound input with soundflower
I make a post in garage support so i post it here another time.

    I'm working with Tiger
I make many try and i found some half solution (it works better)
so i make cross over songs in Itune (between the song modul8 loses the signal), and sound level adaptation.
i make an update from soundflower in 1.4.7 (OSX tiger)
it works but i must be carefull not to add many layers or different videos and effects and I think that my camera input took many ressources and crash down the software.

    Maybe it can help.

. today i've been working w/digital performer 6.02, modul8 2.6.1 and soundflower - i get sound drop outs about every 45minutes or so. audio keeps running and modul8 sees it, but the sound out dies. a quick soundflower off then soundflower to the MOTU 828 seems to fix the issue.
