Hello,

Please I need help. Just entering this modul8 world. It´s amazing!, I really needed this program. Love it.

I´ll use it for a theater show, but I need to load a complete movie which is 25 minutes long, so the size may be of 1,5 Gb. So will modul8 be able to handle this size??

I´m working with this mac:

MB 13" 2,4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.3 GB RAM.
OS X 10.5.2
modul8 2.5

but I think I need to get a macbook pro. Just let me know what is the best for making a secure performance during live shows with this video sizes and I´ll buy it (I know the best is that one with 8 GB ram and 3,0 ghz procesor... but I´ve not got that money!).

I just have 2 weeks before the premiere!!!

Thakns a lot.

Please, I just need to know what is the maximun video sizes that m8 can handle.
Would I be able to handle a 1,5 Gb video with a macbook pro...

maybe that´s not possible, then I just start looking for another solution, as I have my premiere within 3 weeks!!!!

I would appreciate any info about that task and also info about the "minimun machine I need".

Thanks a lot.

It should work fine.
I just run a test for you - a single clip 2.5gb size 1280x720 with some M8 basic effects MBP 2.5ghz 512 VRAM 4gb RAM. Smooth as ever! Only make sure the codec is PhotoJPG at 80-85%. I have run into problems if we try to use alpha even for relative short clips. So be aware.

Ok. Thank you!

I´ll try with that codec (as I was using DV) and let´s see.

Dv is rather heavy decoding and has some other problems like interlacing, PAL and NTSC system differences. I suggest you to try a segment first. To decide over quality, file size and so on.
You can run it through QuickTime or MPEG Streanclip( http://www.squared5.com/ ), but better FCP where you can make adjustments and deinterlace the source.

Hello, I use FCP or CS3 that also lets you adjust lots of parameters... but what you mean with "try segments".

One more question... can´t I work with my actual machine??
with this wonderfull MB 2.4 GHZ??

Thanks a lot.

I just think it will take long time to render whole movie. Take just few seconds and experiment with the quality. For me it takes many tries to get parameters right. For one it may make the mov file even larger than your original. You can go as low as 75% quality with PhotoJPG pretty safe. I have had excellent results deinterlacing movies with Streamclip. It is very fast for one. So try this. It is free and pretty much fantastic tool to play and convert many odd formats.
I do not shoot DV any more fore few years, so my experience may be somewhat outdated.
One thing to consider is that Modul8 takes good use of dedicated graphics card and its VRAM. Its performace is kind of based on this.
MB will be limited, but I hear others use Modul8 with MB just fine.

Thanks... I use in fact Streamclip for some tasks, but as I´m not a video specialiced I would like to know what is esactly "deinterlacing"

...Is there any process I can do to improve my photo-JPG or my DV videos in order to get better performance with my MB.

(Please! if I could work just with my MB... if I need a MBP its 1500¢!! plus).

Thank you.

. basically, when you're using DV footage it draws every other line each frame, deinterlace to draw full frames

. i used a macbook (original two processor version, not dual core) for about a year and had a lot of success w/using photo-jpeg compressed @ 75% quality clips

So I´ll keep trying with my MB to see if it´s enough.
Thanks for trying to explain the process of "deinterlacin". right now I understand but I don´t realice if I can do it with the "photo - JPEG" or only with the DV and (as I´ve tryed) if the sice of my videos doesn´t change after deinterlacing why should be better the performance of m8.

But I realize that I´ve got to keep trying.

Please if any oneelse has got experienc with a MB working hard with m8 tell me how about it.

Thanks a lot from spain.

Heres a good explanation of Interlacing - basically deinterlace anything you plan on inevitably want to use in Modul8 or Youtube/Vimeo etc...

If you use DV interlaced video you will get *tearing* artifacts specially if you have vertical and diagonal lines - as lamp post. It may be as bad as you get half of the post in one frame and the other half in the next. Its not about a performance in Modul8, but you video looks weird. Plus DV is much heavier on CPU. PhotoJPEG is basically a sequence of jpg photos thus it is very easy to manipulate and does not require much work to play.
When you convert with Streamclip you have an option to deinterlace video. You should export to QuickTime video BTW.
Final Cut Express that I have has pretty good deinterlacer as well.

What´s "BTW"? (I can´t find it in my Streamclip popup menu, sorry, I´m not specialliced in video... Weren´t better the photo-JPEG format??

What about using a MB with 3GB and a 2,4Ghz processor intel core 2 Duo... has any one got experience using this machine and M8??

Thank you.
