    Color Calibration, please help

    by madsmeskalin » Wed Mar 10, 2010 8:15 pm

Im trying to calibrate my monitors (laptop and external NEC multisync) to my projectors (3x infocus IN 2112, via matrox triplehead2go) while still optimizing video for the web.

But I have no idea what Im doing!

All the software versions (like supercal) leaves me with an inferior image, the colorcalibrators (like eye-one display2) are more for photography and I dont have a broadcast monitor.

Any advice for a newbie, please?

You can get hardware to do better color calibration. Invest in a Spyder, they have the option of doing color corrections for projectors (front projection) too. The Spyder 3 Elite is about €175 excl. VAT.

    Thanks alot man!

Is color calibration necessary when VJing and producing video's for web? I want my visuals to look the best, everytime. I have a pretty good NEC IPS screen, and three projectors running at the same time.

Color calibrating for beamers isn't very usefull cause the conditions have to have all the time the same. This changes if there is any other lighting, other screenmaterial ...

It makes sense for the production at home but for a show in a club it's useless.

. absolutely - esp. for the web/dvd's you burn. what you might think looks 'black' on your monitor might actually be a dark grey on a properly calibrated system! :)

The Spyder 3 range is an all new profiling and calibration package from Datacolor. This review looks at the Spyder3 Elite version which includes multiple monitor support and the ability to calibrate projectors.

We've had Spyder monitor calibrators here since the original Spyder, and in this review, Keith looks at what's new and what the package can do.
