    How to... Rookie question

    by pandren » Thu Mar 18, 2010 5:55 pm

    Hi!

My first post and I'm sorry if I post at the wrong place.

I've just discovered Modul8 and still using the demoversion but going to buy a license once I get a hang of this.

Found http://vimeo.com/9949621 and think it's awesome. But how do I do that?

    Thx in advance!

    Hum…
This hasn't been done within modul8 or any other vj app… As it says in the video description, this is a VJ loop, it's an animation this guy made to use inside his vjing application.

I actually emailed him and he said he did it in M8 but I didn't get the explanation. Thought someone here knew as well.

Do you want to tell us how it is done?

"Its just a layer of Grid Paper with a overlay or multiply effect on it. Same with the smoke. I think I have the paper slightly moving with the opacity turned right down so its just about visible."

Wrote back and thanked him for the answer. I told him that it didn't help much since I'm a rookie and got the following back:

"No worries. In the newest version (check out the free demo) there is a new function that allows you to apply Blend Modes.

If you make your top layer "add" or "Sub" it will effect the layer underneath it.
So if you "add" or "Sub" and alter the transparency of the layer with the Graph Paper or Smoke it will effect the MAIN LAYER you are applying the effect to.

As a main layer I used the 3D moving shards."

ok, it's what I thought, the 3D plates that are moving in the background aren't made within modul8. At that point I'm starting to wonder if it's useful to apply such effect in modul8 and not before in a post-production app like after effects.

It was the same thought for me that the plates are never been done in M8. But thanks.
