Iv been playing around with microphones on modul8 and want subtle sounds to effect the video dramatically... but have found that with every microphone i use the noise needs to be quiet loud for the video to be effected at all!! can anyone give me some tips or advice to solve my problem? or a tutorial?
Cheers!

You should use some kind of mixer where you can preamplify the sound input. Just make the sound louder before it gets into your mac. Also look into your settings in System Preferences - make sure you getting enough input level. I am sure you know where the sound in button is in M8.
I like the PZM mics the best for this task. Very easy to place (on the floor or table or hand on the wall) and great sound qualities for this kind of job.

Cheers vanakaru!.. ill try the mixer and preamplify the sound input tomorrow.
I'm am art student and am using modul8 for my art installation where I'm mapping videos onto plinths- but i want it to be interactive with the audience so set up microphone to pick up subtle sounds of movement, talking etc to dramatically affect the footage eg. reverse the video change speed etc.
Do you think the mixer will help with this? any more advice would be fantastic!!
Cheers!

subtle sounds affecting video dramatically = non subtle sounds affecting the video EXTRA DRAMATICALLY, bear this in mind. To do this just turn everything up!
You'll have to experiment with the audio analysis preferences within modul8 but I'm afraid that it sounds like what you want to achieve would be more suited to some sort of programming, quartz composer for example).
This might be handy:

Also you may want to filter out loud sounds. This may be the trickiest to do. Look what limiters and compressors do.
But as mowgli sais a bit louder sound will just max out the eefect that becomes no effect at all.

you can use the 'sound router' module.
it has input level control and a threshold setting, so you can prevent louder noises having any effect.
