I try the demo and i think this App. is a very grate Inovation for VJs. Now i think to buy a new PowerBook and a Versions of this nice Improvement and switch to ur solution, but i have the same Problem

I want to import animated Vektors from Flash, but it seems that there is no way to import them with a simple transparency, is that rigth? I tried it for a couple of hours with any export option of flash MX.

in the demoVersion are some shapes which seems to be flash files whit correct transparency,
it would be grate if u can tell us anything about that, maybe we missed an important Info in the documentation or in this Forum

I believe those files in the demo are actually Quicktime Movies exported in the Animation Codec with Millions+ colors. I don't know if modul8 supports flash at this time. If you can export your flash animations as a Quicktime Movie with an Alpha Channel, you should be fine.

give your flash files a black background and use the lumakey options.
there are 2 options you cans use..

    1. your flashfile (not the background) as a mask
    2. throw the black background away...(sorry, i know.. bad englisch :))

with the black background, the colours of your swf will be okay..

yeah you are right, man: though some color information will be lost, as the luma key option its sort of overlay-ish..

thats how i do it anyways :)

    the alpha Flash problem

by interested Viewer » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:57 pm

OK, now i have my new Powerbook with 2GB-RAM and today i send out my order for modul8.
I tryed to get transparent flash with luma on a 600x800px DLP Beamer - The shapes are not really sharp but in a fast animationen the Partypeople can not see this.
But, I am a perfektionist (is this english??) and Partys not the only Events i want to perform so i hope in newer Versions there will come an import option for Flash Files because there is one more Problem:
If u have a Logo or animation with Black elements (maybe outlines) u delet them if u use the luma for black.
Maybe i have to buy MAX/MSP-Jitter for special things like that, but then i have to buy a second PowerBook and this is very ....

Regarding needing to use Luma Key to Key for a logo with black elements. I always do logo elements in After Effects and output to an alpha movie for use in modul8. Frankly I never really learned flash so its just easier for me that way, but using alpha would also solve your problem. Theres also the option of using the Chroma Key. You could try making the background color a shade of blue or green and apply the chroma key. Perhaps this would get you what you need....

Scratch that about the chromakey. I tried it with an almost 100% green background and it left it about 10% half-transparent. Note to GC guys: Please consider making the chroma-key MUCH more sensitive!!! Or make the sensitivity adjustable!! I seriously considered pitching an idea to do live chroma-keying with models, but I can see now that this wouln't be practical with how it works now.
    Pleasepleaseplease!!!!
