    Live mixing/streaming?

    by kinkersnick » Thu Jan 13, 2011 7:04 pm

    Hi,

I'm a filmmaker, but new to this whole area of things. I've been asked to try and put something together which would involve the following, and I'm wondering whether it could be done using Modul8:

4 cameras, perhaps HD webcams with USB connections, connected to a Mac and live mixed with two different outputs - one to a screen (or more than one screen), and one recording to hard disk AND streaming live over the internet.
Does that make sense? Is this even possible as far as anyone knows? What kind of computer/hardware would you need to be able to bring 4 x 720p webcams into the Mac for live mixing? Could it be recorded as well as broadcast instantaneously?

Thank you so much for any help - I have been researching this for hours. Need the help of experts!

I recommend a week or two of more research. If you do not need special effects and realtime manipulation then Modul8 might not be your best application for this project.

I rewrote the above post 5 times. This is doable and can be done with Modul8. It is also doable in many ways that range from costly to insanely costly. If you are not going to effect, map, tweak, dodge, spin, flop, or freak the signal you will have a much easier time buying or renting a stand alone video mixer. In the sorta cheap for the category but good range is the Roland V-440HD. Good luck and I hope you find your answer.

    Thanks for the quick response!
I think you're right, a hardware solution will the be the best and simplest thing, especially since I don't need any effects. The 440HD is one of the options I'm looking at.
Still happy to have discovered Modul8 though, and will definitely devote some time to it in the future.
    Again, thanks for writing back.
