Powerbook vs. iBook

Hi there,
I considering new hardware and I would like your advise on whether to go for a Powerbook or an iBook. What are the differences in performance between the two apart from the price if let's say I have a 1.2Ghz Powerbook and a 1.2Ghz ibook 12" in front of me?

Right now I have a PB 667mhz and it kind of works but not smoothly. If I want smooth playback with 10 layers with lots of effects, what setup do I need as a minimum?

go for the PB!
you are SO going to be longing for dual-display if you end up with the iBook.

(but that's the only reason, really. iBooks perform wonderfully in M8...)

Does 'dual display' mean that you can't have M8 interface on the iBook and send the output to the projector at the same time?

Thanx for the reply and greetings from a fellow Copenhagener ;-)

Yes thats what "dual display" means and the iBook doesn't have it, although there is a warranty devoiding firmware change that can make it "dual display" (sorry I don't have the link)
There is a very small speed increase in the powerbook when compared to an equally speced iBook and you have the option for a 128Mb video card which is always nice.
Bottom line is - if you have the money go for a Powerbook with 128Mb video card if you don't have the money - go for the iBook with firmware "hack"

There's a hefty debate about the iBook firmware hack.
For some people it runs without any problems, but for others (me included) it makes the machine very unstable.
Some even claim that it will fry the motherboard after X months of use...

thanx a lot for this bit of nfo. I was suspicious of this hack (as of any other) and now I'm pretty sure about going for a PB instead. Absolute stability is the key word here...
