You mean a BETA ? There is no beta available yet. We have not decided yet if we'll do a public beta for the 2.5.

ETA is "Estimated Time of Arrival"
interesting. So I guess no major interface changes this time around. "Painter" is an
interesting idea. I've been toying with the idea of doing something similar with a camera
and flashlight, or drawing on the screen with small footage and "trace" going.

I suppose the paint layer is a single layer with its own trace going.
It might be interesting to build a "brush" movie that starts with a big stroke and leaves
drips for example... I'm tempted to try this out with the current version! Of course having
a paint only layer woud be better as it could be used with other layers, whereas the trace method now only works by itself.

Despite my hesitancy to use freeframe effects, I suspect that like the discussion on the
KAOSS pad that there are a few good basics that will be nice to have around, so I am
    looking forward to exploring.

By the way, is it possible in the current version to use the global record to make a clip
of video and save it? If not, it would be nice to impliment this eventually. Esp.
Something that would record at the desired size and length (like half size @
4seconds), save in jpegB in a designated folder, and then load into the media window
automatically would be amazing. Great for more interactive experiments.

No - my question was WHEN we will see 2.5 final :)

Oh, one more for the wishlist: Spectrum analysis on Sound In, so I could have one layer responding to bass, one to treble etc etc

Live Video Sampling now available in Modul8 !!!

Absolutely Chromafresh - totally with you - before I read the manual I thought V2 included live video sampling
of a video layer via record to disk and spent a while (I'm very slow when excited; sometimes its useful!)
trying to get it to work with video camera input!! doh..

I just love the Logical Record facility for saving bits and pieces, rather like having After Effects - the Live version -
great for creating clips as well as recording, but find the Record to Disc takes so much cpu that even
2 or 3 layers plus a couple of effects makes my iBook grunt and the recording stutter.

When I see the Record to Disc option sitting there I fancy it as a live video clip sampler -
pre-set a file location, compression, size etc and have it incrementally up the sample number
to diferentiate clips then adding each clip to the media set as an option - heaven, sheer heaven, blimey
    :P :P

Now just waiting for one of those supermen post we have come to love from either Boris or Yves that reads -
'Did live video sampling option last week and will be in V2.5'

    - No, no major UI changes for this release. The V2.5 introduces many cool new features, but it is not a major update. Deep changes will come with the V3.0 for both the UI and the engine.

    - Yes, it is possible to use the logical record to export a clip and reimport it. However you have to render it to a file and re-import it manually (there is not way to do it automatically).

    - True live video sampling is something that we would like to integrate in Modul8. The only way to do it fast would be to avoid any kind of compression, simply storing the frames in memory. It would work only for short sampling (depending of the available memory). Don't think will be ready for the V2.5.

    - The release date has not been fixed yet. If everything goes right before the end of the year.

Yes, it is some open source freeframe filters that you can use directly in Modul8 2.5. And yes, it work on Panther (not based on CoreImage).

live sampling would be excellent it should be able to be used in conjunction with the "video" mode and say perhaps
record like a second or two on the fly and then be able to use the scratch knobs to control like a clip, or "free" up
to return to video for example.
I think I could easily live with a cap of like 2 seconds or 4 seconds at 15fps for example... or even 2 frames every minute
during a 30 minute period, and play that as a 4 second movie, etc.... just some ideas. still being able to do recording
and save and load those automatically as media is definitely a "must" want for the future.
Same goes for logical and global records, but I still think its absolutely necessary to be able to set the loop or record
time beforehand, and then be able to record.
    please consider it!
