exactly what support will 2.5 have for quartz composer?

I've been following the development of Modul8 2.5 with a lot of interest as it seems like the first version with everything I want to consider me jumping onboard
since I've put a lot of effort into quartz compositions I use in my VJ'ing (see
www.quartonian.net) I want to use a VJ software that fully supports what can be done with quartz compositions...
eg native playback of compositions at full speed using QT7 visual contexts (not GWorlds) as qtzs... not having to save comps as quicktimes
allow midi mapping and audio reaction of compositions when played within the vj software.
allow designing fx chains using quartz composer (core image in and out)
how many of these will modul8 2.5 support?
is it likely that 2.5 will be out by end of April?

New Modul8 engine of the V2.5 is able to stream directly its frames to VRam using CoreVideo. It is also able to use both CPU orientend filters (like FreeFrames) and GPU filters.
It is able to chain CoreVideo effects (for each layer).
If it is not released by the end of April, we won't be very happy.

thanks for that but can you clarify if Modul8 2.5 will be able to load compositions directly? or will we have to save them as quicktime files?
eg can it load a foo.qtz file?
thanks

What's exactly the difference, eskaton?

the difference is, if a vj app can load a "qtz" file it means it's full native support. maximum speed, possibility to still control quartz comps with keyboard or mouse or midi....
if you have to convert the quartzs to a quicktime then it may be running through a compatibility mode..slower framerate, no possibility for keyboard control etc....
at the moment only edo and quartonian mixer have full native support for playing quartz compositions (that I know of)

The problem of "truly" supporting quartz composer is in the user-interface. In Modul8, there is no way to interact directly with the content of a media (clicking inside the content of a layer). So we don't support interactive media (yet).
It would require mouse and keyboard events to be redirected to the media. Also this cannot be done in the main output which is usually redirected to a projector (it could be achieved in the preview window). So no, this won't be implemented for the 2.5. Only the 3.0 with its deep UI revision will allow this kind of advanced interactions.
Now, Quartz composer works at full speed in the 2.5, because it is rendered directly to a GL texture using CoreVideo.
The best is to wait for the public demo and do your own tests.

But wouldn't MIDI control still be possible? This does not need you clicking in any media.
It would suffice to me if I just had MIDI control

midi control of quartz composer patches should still be possible...
it's probably possible with the current version to use quartz composer patches that react to audio and listen to midi... this already works in current release of GRID PRO.
I'll test this when 2,5 comes out.

Audio would be cool since you can control the frequencies much better in QC!

Very much interests any changes in this direction have been made?
