The more powerful graphics card is suggested for your UI, that is what powers Resolumes output. I have a high success rate with smooth playback for all of my shows. I use 3 or more outputs pushing 1080p 30fps across all outputs with intense effects.
IF you want to JUST "fire it up" and have it do what you want, - let me know if you find the cerebral interface for it to read your mind.

    good luck

First of all, you're making an awful lot of assumptions in your post. My config is as follows: Mac Pro 1,1, (Dual core 3.0 Xenon, 2x Radeon HD5770, ) w/ 12 Gigs of RAM, SSD boot/video drive running 10.7.4. In other words, all of the outputs are equally powered. As I said before I am aware that Resolume supposedly performs best with the DVX codec and, again as I indicated, I did encode my test videos in that format.

As for just firing it up and having it work, I actually don't think that's too much to expect. There aren't any secret settings or real tweaks that it takes to get Modul8 simply playing a video at its maximum frame rate. In my experience, if it doesn't perform well out of the box, it's probably not going to perform well no matter how many tweaks or hacks you put on it. I'm glad that it works well for you, but in my tests, it doesn't hold a candle to Modul8.

This was a test after blend on your exact setup. I was not impressed with the Towers cards(5770), but it did give me 30fps to match my Animations framerate with a 3 projector blend.
DXV codec 100% quality w/audio and alpha.

This was run on your exact setup several weeks ago. +32gb Ram
I do agree with you, plug-N-play is a nice feature. Modul8 did give me that. I am a long time member of the Modul8 family. I just needed more.
I do understand your frustration, but my candles beam brighter.....about 25k brighter

I have to admit, that I do love the pJPG format better. It is much cleaner with the gradients. You cant win;)

Interesting video but your setup isn't exactly like mine. Your projectors may burn brighter, I have twice as many ;) As I said, I'm doing five projectors plus a plasma for a total of six outputs. In any case, it's interesting to know what you were able to get out of Resolume on a similar config. I may give it another go if I get an opportunity (of which I don't have many since this is an install) and I'll keep my fingers crossed that Modul8 does, in fact, come out with an update this year...

Yeah, if that's the "update" that GarageCube has been talking about, then the title of this thread is probably correct. That said, I do hold out hope as at least they're updating it at all...

I was avid Modul8 user, I have gotten this program because it allowed awesome python integration. But this was 2 years ago...

As of now, I and my teammate in Glitchfairy have switched to the diet of VDMX and COGE, plus our own tools written in MAX6 (jitter) and Touch Designer we still use Madmapper, but we can't use Modul8 anymore

A bit late, but I'm happy to say that I was wrong to presume that Modul8 was dead!
