media with correct resolution too big for fullscreen

    by marlogue » Fri Oct 18, 2013 12:00 am

    Hello,

I have modul8 outputting to an external monitor of resolution 1024 * 768

In modul8, I have my bottom layer with video-clips (from a DVD with black letterboxing), res 720*576, scaled up (not normalized) so that it fits the output frame without letterboxing visible.

Above this layer I have a motion-graphics layer, created in After Effects at res 1024*768.
When its scale is at 100% (RESET and at 2x) and normalize off, it is too large for the screen.
When normalize is ON, it almost fits the screen but for being ever so slightly smaller than fullscreen (1 pixel less on all sides). This means I cannot composite these motion-graphics onto the videos without this annoying strip all around them where the video below is visible.

WHY OH WHY IS MODUL8 NOT RESPECTING THE RES OF THE MEDIA which in this case is the same as the output resolution?

    hello!

the size of my videos are 3072x768 pixel. after importing the clip the video is too big! or the modul8´s video output is to small (1920x480). but in the Prefs i have chosen the resolution i need for my clips. I have to Normalize and scale to Max to have the result i want.

    very strange...

While this is annoying indeed you may want to consider producing the media all same size and match your projector native size. Thus avoiding scaling here and there and most likely degrading the output quality.

Modul8 has a virtual stage that has a preview size of 640x480 bananas… If your media is too big, it will be croped but you can scale it down and once you go fullscreen it will get all its pixels back. The scaling down operation is a difficult one actually, sometimes the "normalize" button doesn't produce what you would expect…
