So guys:
How do YOU layout your Modul8 screen?

The reason I am posting in the modules forum is that the modules are the source of the "problem". (Luxury problem , I know!)
I quickly found myself not being able to cram all the lovely modules in there with the main interface.

Any bright ideas?

My solution to this problem has been Exposé (look in your system preferences if you don't know what this is)... I set the lower left corner to expose all open windows. Works like a charm.

Yeah its becoming a problem for me too.
I've also rebuilt some of the modules to fit them in a 260 pixel wide window. Thats the space I've got left on the left side of the screen on my 15' powerbook. But thats only usefull to people with the same computer

I'm also building all my modules with that in mind (130 or 260 pixel wide).

Another good thing would be to create a master BPM module. So we don't have all the BPM buttons in many modules, it eats up a lot of space on the screen.
And I'm also thinking of writting some sort of matrix for the layer selection. Many modules have got that layer part. And it would be good to put them all in the same place too. Like a last module at the bottom of the screen to select wich effect goes to wich layer.

It's becom so much of a "problem" that I'm even thinking about reworking the whole interface for my needs.

Hey, modules rock, it would be possible, so why not? But I know it's be quie a pain in the botty to manage it. Someday...!

I'm using that one also.

i float the extra modules on either side, or when in fullscreen mode, use that extra space for another module

I was thinking if it's possible to use Python to put a module in focus? In that case I could map the focus function to a key and simply show the module with a key stroke whenever I need it. Then it wouldn't matter if it's hidden behind the main interface from time to time.

I have looked around on python.org in order to find a solution, but since I'm new to Python I haven't figured out how to access the module's window object. Any help here?

Exposé works brilliant for me too jm302, plus is dead simple to sort to suit your own style.
It doesn't affect my 2nd screen Jesper, no worries there even using iBook+hack.

I have it set to 'exposé' using the fn key, bottom left keyboard,
I find there is less chance of stuff happening in error by using
keys rather than 'screen corners', personal pref though.

- a quick ket press at any time (fn key is easy to find in the dark)
and each part of the main interface plus all open modules slide open
to choose from, click the module you want and the main interface
slides back into place with the selected module on top automatically.
Luverly!
Once you click back on the main interface the modules all disapear
behind until needed again.

Is there way of triggering the modules 'all stop' option from a key?
Now that would be a worthwhile trick.

I have today tested expose´, and like Jesper, my output is also moved. PowerBook 15#

We'll try to that change for the next version. The output window should not be affected by Exposé.

Don't know how Justin is using it right now, but there is maybe a shareware which allows you to exclude a screen from exposé...

OK, I have been looking for a 'complete plonker' smiley everywhere but can't find one!!

I just got in & read the M8 posts and have fired up my laptop all the while thinking
'I'm sure XposeA works for me' - of course it doesn't, no secret, sorry!

BUT The good news is that I then sussed a Key Map for the +/- in top left of M8,
this works perfectly, NOT mapped to the fn (for some reason it wasn't having that I remember) but to the ctrl key.

Now your interface will zoom out of the way leaving any open modules displayed.
