(VS) XT TEXT / IPHONE CONTROL

    by metacitizen » Sun Aug 26, 2012 12:49 am

    Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to control the module (VS) XT TEXT from an iphone.
I am new to TouchOSC and I wonder if this would be the right tool to use or if there are any other possibilities.
Any information would be deeply appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Marcos

No need for double posting. It is very bad habit(and bad karma).

I'm not sure how you would like to use it but there is no text input from TouchOSC so you can't type in new text from your iPhone, if that's what you meant?. You should however probably be able to trig words that you have already lined up in the module.

Another option would be to use a screen expansion app like Air Display that simply turns your iOS device into an extra screen. They you can simply put your text module on the iPhone screen and you should be able to write text. At least this should work in theory, I haven't tested it with any text module.

You could also write your own module for this but that might not be so easy if you're a beginner. I think I modified a text module for someone so that it could receive text over the UDP protocol. That worked together with at least one of the UDP apps in the Appstore. But I'm not sure how well it worked, I never heard anything back.

Hi Midi Thief, thanks so much for your reply!
What I need to do is not typing in new text from my iPhone, but simply be able to scroll up and down, select or skip lines of text already lined up in the module from my iPhone.
I will try the Air Display as you suggest, but if you know a simple way to write or modify a module to to this, please let me know.
    Best regards,
    M

    hi one more question,
would it be possible to have the xt text module connected to an online database, rather than to a .txt file on my computer?
    thanks,
    marcos

I'm not the author of the module, but yes it's possible. It takes some work though.
