    elgato turbo.264HD

    by Lupin » Wed Jun 22, 2011 11:33 pm

I jsut bought an elgato turbo 264 HD dongle.
it speeds up drastically render times. here's the challenge I did.
take a 50minutes video in 1280x720 quicktime apple pro res 422LT splitted in 4 parts (each part is a 3.71Go video)

encode these videos into a single quicktime H.264 1280x720 5mbps video

the same computer is used to encode videos: an imac 27" intel core i5 2.66Ghz - 12go RAM
    solution 1 FCP+Compressor:
Finalcut pro used to stich parts then exported to compressor
    render time: 6h44 mn

    solution 2 turbo.264HD:
    Elgato turbo,264HD Dongle+ software:
    automatic video stiching
    render time: 28 mn

mmmmmhhh... i guess that 90€ investment was worth it

Kind of mind blowing that something that small can do that much. Makes me feel old.
