    MacBook lackluster?

    by chromafresh » Wed Jan 11, 2006 6:32 am

Interesting. Generally speaking first generation Apple products have been a bit buggy, so I'm all for waiting. The "faster processor" is certainly a nice feature, however it looks like Rosetta doesn't even emulate most of the applications out there, even the pro Apple apps require waiting for upcoming "universal" updates at at undisclosed cost!!

There where rumors that Firewire was going to be dropped completely. I'm relieved at least that 400 is still available, though the lack of 800 seems to be irking alot of users.

Oh yes, and no s-video output! Does anyone have any idea how we're supposed to output now without s-video output???

I guess you will have to use the dvi->svideo adapter as you can find for the the G5 ...
which kind of sucks as you need to bring your stupid adapter with you all the time...
And you have to buy it ... not included like the dvi->vga

    No S-video Output
No PCMCIA (i use for my sd card :) duruing shows)
    No FW800

but how cool?.. you get a webcam and a remote control instead

this one is not for me.....

    Are you guys mad!!!!!!!!!
The processor is 4 times the speed, you can fit 256mb video ram, you can output at 2560 x 1600 display if you really want to, 7200rpm SATA drive, double speed RAM, this machine will be able to handle just about anything Modul 8 can fire at it.
    I want one now!

    Well, I have faith!

I just bought a MacBook Pro as soon as I got on the Uni LAN this morning.

    1.83 Ghz
100 GB 7200 rpm Hard drive
    1 GB on a single DDR2
    DVI to S-Video PAL adaptor

I'll add another 1 GB from crucial as soon as I get it.

Shipping is estimated on or before Feb 15th

    Bring it on!

    8)

    Need any beta testers, guys?

Am I missing something here? Maybe I'm being really stupid but what is so special about about S Video as opposed to VGA for output. I've been using VGA for all my gigs (albeit smallish gigs) and it looks fine!

Yeah. VGA actually looks better, but the V4 uses s-video or composite and IIRC the panasonics use BNC (which adapts well from comp).

It will look great for just one laptop outputing to one projector via VGA, no problem - but if you want to use a number of sources
i.e. live feeds, dvd players, wireless cameras, or even another laptop and mix these all up prior to projecting
then VGA is no good for the likes of us. I guess there must exist VGA mixers but what price?!
The BBC or other such folk probably have a really handy but incredibly expensive solution! VGA mixers anyone?! :(

Yes, Akira, but notice how all the cool Mac upgrades usually occur right AFTER Christmas. How 'bout that duocore 5 Ghz, anybody, with a 512 Mb graphics card? The Future is Fun! (Not counting environmental catastrophes and the like!)
    The Revolution must be televised!

If you have the $$$ then why not. Due for an upgrade but no $$$. So we wait for 2nd generation MacBook Pro. Probably for the better. I usually enjoy working with constraints anyway. Makes the artwork better. At least for me.

    S-Video out on MacBook Pro

    by nwmarco » Tue Apr 04, 2006 9:01 pm

I believe there is a DVI-S-Video adapter shipping with the new MacBook Pro. If not, they are $20.

    Cheers,
    Marco
