    MadLight with Conventionals

    by joeladria » Wed Nov 07, 2012 5:47 am

I'm using MadMapper in our theatre, and would like to use the MadLight features using an array of conventional fresnels with R/G/B gels in them.

Is there a way to accomplish this using MadLight? I tried to create a fixture for it, but there does not seem to be individual "R" pixel types that would be required, other than the "L" pixel type. Could this be a future addition?

    Thanks.

    L is for brightness.
If you're using gels, you would typically send just Brightness value, since the color comes from the gel.

Yes, I realize the L would work for strictly black/white mapping, however MadLight only outputs luminosity in that case. There is no way of sending the amount of red on a particular area to a particular address without contiguous groupings of 3 RGB, etc.

does it work if you dimmer per says has start DMX 1. with par can with a red gel at # 1, the next adress is 2 with a Green gel and the third lamp on the DMX line is a blue. If you then create a RGB fixture with thre channels starting at DMX Ch 1. Would the Red Parkann react when you only send red output? or do you need to make a single light fixture for each DMX adress?

Yes, if the lighting fixtures were contiguously numbered, this would not be an issue. Unfortunately, in our theatre we don't always have the luxury of continuous numbering, given that it is dimmer-per-circuit. Thus, it would great to have individual control over each color of pixel.
