best codec, best filesize, for MadMapper 3 and 2 Projectors,

    by Lilabungalow » Wed Jan 08, 2020 11:13 pm

    Hi everybody.

I am quite new with the mapper and Video stuff and for my current project I have a question.
I have a Video (2160x1080) which is splited via a MatroxDH2goMe on two porjectors with 1920x1080 resolution.
    I use a MacBookPro from2014/Mavericks, 500SSD, 16MBRAM and 2,3GHz Dualcore and MadMapper3.
I have created a couple of different file sizes and codecs of the video to check what is the most fluent. So I made a file 2016x1080 with HAP Code (mov) which is 6GB big, one with 1960x980 in H.264, MP4 wich is about 300MB, One in a 2160x1080 in Rawformat, Mp4 which is 5GB. And I actualy don't know what specs I need for the final file to fit the Resolution of the projectors(1920x1080), the matrox (something wiered 2720 x 768 (2x 1360 x 768) and the original template (2160x1080) the best and make the playback es fluent as possible. All Movies are rendered with 25 Frames. Somaybe you can help me out.

    Thank's a lot

As long as you have an SSD drive and enough space, HAP is the best. HapQ if HAP quality is not enough & HapAlpha if you need Alpha channel.
If you have a 5 hours long movie, HAP might no more be an option, then h264 is good because as the most common format today, decoding is well optimized. However if you want to have live controls over the movie, performances will become bad (like playing backward, moving to a specific position in the middle of your movie etc)

Hi we have a problem with a setup. We have two projectors and a panorama projection with softedge. The movie Resolution is 3640x1020px. in 60FPS. I encoded it in HAP but the movie stutters from time to time
We are running it on a win10 machine with a i5 processor and a P1000 Quadro Card
Have you any suggestions what might be helpful for a better performance

For such high res + HAP, the operation is complex, kinda heavy for your computer's CPU.

When I re-encode or export huge movies files from my editing software I close all the other programs and wait until the export / re-encode is done.

Otherwise, if I'm doing anything else, I can be sure that the resulting movie file will stutter from time to time

Try again with nothing else than your encoding HAP operating

Try a different FPS setting as well

HAP in this resolution should be ok. The bottleneck can be the hard drive bandwidth. Is the movie located on an internal SSD hard drive ?
