    MM-4 Space Scanner not precise

    by Calysto » Wed Oct 28, 2020 6:17 pm

We try to use the space scanner in madmappr 4.0.1. Everythings seems to work, but the result is not very precise.

The way we test it is like this:

Subject: a wall with a window in the middle and two open closets next to it.
Projector: Epson TW6600 (normal homecinema prijector, everything reset to normal, resolution: 1920x1080)
Camera: Sony A6000 with kit-lens connected to a blackmagic decklink duo 2, I know it''s not a Canon, but Madmapper sees it and the image is clear)
Camera settings: 1/30 shutter, ISO 100, manual shutter
    Resolution of the camera: 1920x1080
    everything is set to 1920x1080

Camera is positioned on the projector, at the same angle, we've tried lens shift and lifting the projector, a wide image and zoomed in.

A strange thing is that the output of Madmapper when scanning is not completely full-screen, on the bottom we miss a few pixels, we sea that too when we 'project' on a normal monitor, also 1920x1080. Is that normal? Normal output is just fine, I've check it, it was 16:9.

We test the result by putting the fullscreen Cursor option on, and point the mouse to differents points on the scanned picture (that is set as background by madmapper) Mainly the top-middle is oke, but on the bottom the differents is very clear, I think 5cm in real. (the whole picture is about 4M wide)

    Are we missing something?

    What I did now:
I loaded the scan as a quad and started resizing the image until it fits reality. If I make it approximately 1920 x 1060 then it's MUCH better!

That's still not a solution, but it might find the cause..

What I notice know is that Space Scanner output's images that have different sizes, the last ones that I've created are 1920 x 1061, that matches my previous perception. Why?

I've added 19 pixels at the bottom of the scan with a photo editing program. Now it's looking good! I've tried the new 4.0.2 version, no luck with that....

Please give me some answers.... I've just bought this software, so it's a little bit disappointing...

    Hi,
    Are you on Windows ?
Is the Sony camera set to 1920x1080 in MadMapper media properties ?
In this case, save jpeg files should be 1920x1080.
    I'll check your support ticket
    Cheers

    Hi,

    Yes, I'm om windows.
Not sure what you mean by media properties (screen on the right side?), but when I use the camera as an input the resolution is 1920x1080p50
If I export it as an image file, the resolution is 1920x1080. So there's no problem when using it as a normal input. Only when using it as a scanner, then it goes wrong...

See attachment. I've turned on a testpattern and started the space scanner. It it normal that you see the testpattern on the bottom
of the screen? You can see the camera input as media too. (I've a second screen and a projector, for this picture the space scanner is on the second screen, that's why you don't sea it on the live input.)

I've changed the image format to JPEG to make the file size smaller.

So I'd say that your scan is pretty good.

Please read my posts carefully. The scan looks good, but doesn't match reality. If I add 19 pixels at the bottom, then it's fine. No matter what I scan... that isn't normal I suppose...
The idea behind scanning is that it is matching reality, right? (without editing) Otherwise there should be an option to move the background until it fits reality.

I think the problem is the bar that we can see at the bottom of the right screen in your screenshot. The fullscreen window is not taking the fullscreen. Maybe it's shifted up, or it's not as big as it should. That's not a known issue.
Is you Windows up to date ?
If your "Main Display" in Windows display settings set top the display with MadMapper UI ?
Could you send a screenshot of screens configuration ?

    Windows version: W10 1909
When I use the normal output, it is full screen. With other software like Vmix, it's just working fine.
The problem occurs only when using the space scanner.

My main display is configured as display 1, the MM UI is on there, just like the windows start-menu and the clock.

If you want we can use teamviewer, you can look at all the options...

Can I install madmapper 3 with my serial code? That's something I can try....

I've just installed MM-3.....and..........the problem isn't there! The screen is full-white when using the space-scanner.
Tomorrow I will do a scan...

I haven't done a scan with version 3, because I want to use version 4. And that's still not working, I've updated windows to version 20H2 and updated my Nvidia drivers. The problem is still there.... Am I the only one with this problem? It seems like a bug in version 4.
Are there other things I can do?
