    MadMapper - DMX Input

    by Lembonious » Fri Oct 30, 2020 2:13 pm

    Hey there Hive Mind,
I am trying to see if MadMapper has DMX Input capabilities to trigger Que's. I currently use DMXIS coupled with a DAW to run my lightshows. My setup smoothly controls all my lights, lasers, and motion fixtures. I would like to re-incorporate projection into my shows with Mapping. There are very inexpensive dmx controlled video players but, those just output video and have no ability of masking/mapping. Does Madmapper have an ability to see DMX input values so I can trigger Que's and switch the videos?
I am sure I could use the DMX video switcher to change the live video input for Passthrough worst case.

    Thanks for the feedback :-)

You can map DMX channels to everything... just like midi.

But does it work when we use a MiniMad?

Sounds good. I have seen so many videos about how to output midi dmx values and controlling dmx external devices, and using midi triggers to trigger values but not dmx input to switch videos. This thing plays videos, and there is a dongle I can use to literally connect up to my DMX cables and it switches based on that value. :-) https://www.frightprops.com/sprite-seam ... layer.html

If I can figure this one out, it would be great.

If you open the Controls dialog (menu Edit / Controls List) and press the + button, you'll see all available control addresses. All of those can be controlled from DMX / MIDI / OSC/ etc.
For changing video on a layer you have multiple choices:
1- directly choose the visual for a surface depending on the order in the media bank: "/surfaces/Quad-1/visual/number" & "/surfaces/Quad-1/visual/type"
2- create cues with different visual assignments and trigger the cues from DMX. In this case, you can work by column: "/cues/Bank-1/columns/start_by_number", or by cell: "/cues/Bank-1/cues/start_by_number"

Let me know if it's clear enough.
