Madmapper DMX Export

Hi,

I have a question concerning the DMX export.
I want to prepare light animation in Madmapper and then export them to an external DMX RECORDER/PLAYER
Like this one : https://www.thomann.de/be/botex_dr_pro_ ... corder.htm

I'm actually looking for a way to go on tour with my band without the need of a laptop.
The whole show and lights would be triggered via midi. So the DMX player with Midi in is exactly what I'm looking for.

Is it possible to prep everything in Madmapper and export it in some way ? or will it be possible to record every animation that comes out of Madmapper into the DMX recorder if I connect them with my USB/DMX interface ?

I'm already a Madmapper owner but looking for some advice before investing into the external gear.

The miniMad also handles DMX playback that you can control from MIDI or OSC. It handles USB DMX (garageCube and Enttec Pro/Mk2), ArtNet & sACN. With ArtNet and sACN it can handle attt least 60 universes at 60 FPS.
You can change sequence from MIDI or OSC. Next update will handle audio playback (and multichannel audio- only limited by you audio card).
But if you want to go with this device, if it records DMX with a standard DMX connector then of course it can record MadMapper output.

Hi Matt,

After a few research the device I had in mind will not work. It only use midi for timecode.

BUT I didn't know I could trigger the miniMad via midi, that's great news (my first idea was to buy the miniMad of course but without midi, my setup wouldn't work) !!!! how do you achieve this via the USB connection ? with a USB to MIDI cable or a midi interface ? This would be great because I could use the miniMad to trigger the videos and DMX lights.
How si the video playback quality of the miniMad ? Is it a instant playback or do you have delays ? is it reliable or should I use a external device for the video and just use the miniMad for DMX playback ?

Midi would trigger the videos and lights on beats so I need something that is reliable without delays.

I've bought the garage cube LEDS with the garage cube USB DMX device when you launched your kickstarter so this project would be ideal for me to get my hands

Do you have a MIDI implementation chart for the miniMad ? just to know the CC, PC commands to send and also how to choose the Midi Channel ?

Sorry for all the questions, never used the miniMad before so just want to make sure this could be the right toy for me and my band.

Many thanks for your answers on this

Is there a way to control the SCENES/CUES via Midi ? this would be the best I guess for the combo VIDEO/DMX LIGHTS right ?

So far the miniMAD can be controlled using the device's buttons, an USB keyboard, a microModul8 controller and OSC.

There's no standard Midi control available yet, and you have to choose between Light & Video for moment.

The trigger delay is short, especially using miniMAD Light.

Please take a look at the official user-guide to learn mode about the existing controls: https://madmapper.com/wp-content/upload ... RGUIDE.pdf

Hi Pierre,

Ok so I found a box that converts MIDI into OSC.
So if I connect this box with an Ethernet cable on the miniMad it should work, right ? I could send my midi CC, transform them into an OSC command and then talk to the miniMad directly via the ethernet port ?

I would use the miniMad for the DMX control as I already found a box for the video playback that is midi triggered.

Hi Pierre and Matt you guys must be busy but would be great if you could get back to me.
I'm planning to use this device to convert my midi signal to OSC so I can control the miniMad.
It's a French company maybe you know them : https://www.interface-z.fr/pronfiture/c ... en_boitier

Really hope this could work. Let me know so I can place an order for a miniMad and start working on this project.

Still waiting for a response from you.
I've contacted the Interface Z for their MIDI-OSC converter to see if this would work with the miniMad.
Their response :

The card is compatible with Pure Date and Max MSP that can receive OSC messages with 9 values for sensors data.
It's not compatible with software that can only receive precise OSC messages.
Their question to me is to check with you guys if the miniMad software can be modified to accept different OSC header (entĂȘte) ?

if that's not possible, do you have any other idea to convert OSC to MIDI so that it can work with the miniMad ?

Why not using a MadMapper running on a VivoStick or a ComputeStick ? This will give you more possibilities, and avoid having a box for MIDI->OSC and a MiniMad for OSC->DMX. Also, actually you can't do DMX playback and video output at the same time with a single MiniMad. Check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTxXNfGF_A8
