I love how in the "Cue System" you can sort of automate the playback of movies. It is handy for setting up installations where you want to change the content yet just let it run.

What I would like to explore is how to do these 2 things that are related to the above:

1) Drag in a folder of videos? When I try this I get a folder in the "Image Folder" group but nothing plays. I tried clicking lots of things but to no luck. Is there a way to do this properly? Dragging in a folder would be much, much, much easier then individually running them through the "Cue System" especially once the video count is say over 20.

2) Automatically scan the folder for new videos? Imagine following the suit of #1. You could drag in a folder. Then, after every restart of MM it would scan the folder and update the list. Maybe I added a new video or renamed it to play in a new order? This is some gold level stuff. I asked the folks at Resolume and they understood the question but were unable to provide a solution for Avenue/Arena. In addition they were unable to provide any API, etc that would allow me to craft my own. Maybe some weird use of a "generator" in MM would allow for this?

Both of these would be huge for the ease of use. It might even mean I can just use MM and do away with Resolume for automated systems.

Also, maybe there is a way to get at some of these asks in a different way. I am open to ideas!

With MadMapper 4 you'll get these 2 features for pictures (pictures folder, watchdog behavior)

But I don't think its planned for videos yet...

Why not do this for videos in v4 too? Is there some technical reason?

It happens. Would be a great feature though!

I know it's tough trying to satisfy all the edge cases in a long tail but this would really seal the deal for some automated systems using MM for projectors, screens, and beyond. I mean some of the top dog pieces of broadcasting software don't even have this. You could totally do this!

Imagine the ease with which playlists could be built for each day, played alphabetically, so a librarian could just upload and let go, totally automated.

Time flies and I still haven't quite found a solution for this!

Would be excellent though. I think it would really drive the narrative that this is a good tool for standalone installations.
