    Lasers

    by sputnik » Fri Nov 06, 2020 10:14 pm

    Hi,
Does anyone have any experience implementing lasers into MM. I understand this would be possible thru DMX
By using Garagecube DMX controller for instance ? https://shop.garagecube.com/collections ... 1-universe . Or rather independent hardware is required.
Is there any simple/basic budget friendly laser , DMX controlled out there ? And would it possible to work with it like for example with Garagecube LED Bars ? Any tip appreciated.

    Hi,
Of course if you have a DMX controllable laser you can control it from MadMapper.
You might have to create a custom fixture definition. In MadMapper a fixture definition tell which channel is control by what (input visual color levels / sliders / fixed value or custom coded expressions). We do a lot of shows controlling strobs, lights, LED bars & video at the same time, if we had DMX lasers we could do it too.
If you have a PDF forr the DMX control you can post it, it generally takes 5 minutes to create a fixture definition.
    Cheers

    Hi Matt,
Thank for speedy response. I'm still in process of understanding the whole 'laser' thing, as it is not so straightforward to me right now.
If for example I want to project a custom animation ? You are saying 'PDF' - that means still img ? . I was looking at https://www.laseros.com/ and their LaserCube . But it looks like a closed system. Ie. if you want some custom animation content, there is a payable service to do that.It does not look as simple as attaching custom animation to MM quad ?
I'm also keen to use Korg Nanokontrol 2 MIdI controller to play with it..if it is of course parametric MM content/material
I think there is still sth I'm missing here..which I don't understand in whole workflow :)

Custom laser animations are made with special software like Pangolin Quickshow. You need a laser that supports ILDA (more info: google)
You need an ILDA interface connected to an ILDA-laser.

If you want, you can send DMX commands to the ILDA software to make a nice show.

With PDF he ment a manual.

Just sending DMX is possible too, but your options are very limited then, no custom animations, only build-in animations. Unless you have and Pangolin FB4.. you can upload animations to the FB4 and run them with DMX-commands.

In a nutshell... just google until you die...

There might be some opensource ILDA controllers, but be careful, a laser is dangerous, don't 'just do something'.
