    APA102/SK9822 and 5bit brightness adjustment

    by opidmx512 » Tue May 04, 2021 5:46 pm

    Dear Forum,

What would be the setup for outputting the 5bit brightness adjustment in a separate DMX slot?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Arjan,
MadMapper can output 16 bits RGB (16 bits per component), so if your LED driver handles 16 bits colors it can use any feature of the digital led hardware chipset. MadMapper is not supposed to directly control the electronic chipset, the LED driver is supposed to.
Of course by sending DMX data, the driver is not aware of what we're sending and the setup in MadMapper and in the LED driver should be the same. Most LED drivers does only allow receiving RGB 8 bits data. They are not supposed to drive White only led strips. It works because MM sends luminance only data and the LED driver does just forward the 8 bits DMX channel data to the LED strip ignoring it's White only.
But if the LED driver has a 16 bits input mode, it could handle specific chipset feature for better color definition. You would just have to be sure to setup 16 bits on both sides...
    Hope it answers your question
    Cheers
