    Newbee question about compression

    by play.vj » Thu Mar 03, 2022 12:54 pm

    Hello everyone,

I'm about to move from one Vj. software to madmapper. Right now all my clips are DXV encoded. Should I trans code everything or leav it in DXV?

Is H264 also recommend for quick clip triggering style of clip access or does Mpeg encoding cause a lag when switching files?

Does using H264 and HAP in the same composition/show cause any stability issues?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Transcode. DXV is supported but fully on CPU side, so it's slow. DXV is not an open standard. Move to HAP.
Is H264 also recommend for quick clip triggering style of clip access or does Mpeg encoding cause a lag when switching files?
HAP is better. For VJing, avoid temporal compression.
Does using H264 and HAP in the same composition/show cause any stability issues?
Not at all. Each movie is decoded in a separate thread with its own data. Except they share the same CPU/GPU, all movie deccodig is independant.
