    Global BPM Oscillator Speed Settings

    by literallyANYTHING » Thu Sep 12, 2024 5:38 am

Can somebody shed some light on the way the speed setting works with an oscillator which is linked to the global BPM?

What I would expect to happen is an oscillator synced to a 120 BPM global tempo should effectively cycle twice per second. And if I were to set the speed value of this oscillator to 0.50 I would expect the oscillator to cycle once per second. But from what I can tell using a metronome and strobing.
I created a 120BPM metronome wav file and play it via the audio player module. I have the global tempo set to 120BPM and I have global Resync, Audio Replay, and Oscillator restart mapped to the same midi button to ensure that I'm not out of phase

Perhaps somebody can help me better understand the functionality of the speed parameter when used in conjunction with the "Link to Global Tempo." Is it logarithmic? I've also noticed that the "Strobe" media speed parameter seems to behave differently than the oscillator module slider (both linked to global tempo.)

Any help appreciated. My desired outcome is that I can link modules and medias to the global BPM and use the speed parameter to achieve different subdivisions or multiplications of the beat. E.g.: 1/4 beat, 1/2 beat, every other beat, every 4 beats, etc....

I am aware of the internal MadMapper controls that let you use the 1_beat, 2_beat, 3_beat...etc... but I haven't found that these are suitable for my use case.
