    MadLight multiple Universes

    by NateMac » Wed Jan 23, 2013 2:18 am

Received my "ENTTEC Open DMX Ethernet" been playing with it all evening, very fun, lots of possibilities.
We're running RGB lighting through it(Data RGB 3 LEDs per/chip), and what I was wondering if it was possible to have multiple universes with a singer ENTTEC Open DMX Ethernet?
If I have LEDs on the left side of the room and another set on the right side of the room, can I control those LED separately by bridging or splitting out from the ENTTEC Open DMX Ethernet or would I need TWO ENTTEC Open DMX Ethernet connected to an Ethernet switch?

you need one Enttec Open DMX box per universe

Thanks, I was able to daisy chain the dmx boxes though. Do you know, will that max out at 512?

Curious about the limitations of running a ton of universes out of madmapper with Madlight. I am trying to put together a stage design where we use a least 100 LED tubes similar to this. http://www.mega-lite.com/download/brigh ... asheet.pdf

I would like to run full video through them with madlight. I have tested smaller configurations with 4-8 lights and it works great.

The problem comes with needing so many channels. I calculate that I could run 10 lights per universe. My question is about the best way to do that. It looks as though some people have used the OXO [Net]Box 8 Artnet/DMX to get more universes. Is this supported? Could I run 2 of these for 16 universes? Is there a better box for this? I would like to do it without purchasing 15 EntTec ODE. Are there any system limitations that you have seen with running so many channels of DMX out of the computer? Any performance issues you might foresee?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If your willing to go the DIY route, Jansen and I are following this guys work with code based on Arduinos.

For those users that needs an Art-Net pixel controller at affordable price.

We have in test phase our new Pixel controller II, this controller handles up to 12 Art-Net universes (2040 RGB pixels), running at 25-30 FPS, price are in the range of 25 Euros by universe (for unboxed version, only board + power supply).

    Supported drivers:
    WS2801
    WS2811
    TM1803
    TM1804
    TM1809
    TM1812
    UCS1903
And probably the new, high speed TM1829

Interesting... Thanks for the reply. I'm def open to DYI. That seems as though it would be a lot of build time for the amount we are trying to do but I'm going to look into it as it seems the price it right.

    thanks!

    hi ~

i'm trying to figure out a setup with 2 x pixelcontroller II and lpd6803 stripe /
what is the correct configuration for madmapper dmx output ?

i can make it work with one controller , but it's not working with the second ..

    thanks

PS: with the same setup , a pc with madrix can run it correctly with 2 controllers attached.

i have no experience using " pixelcontroller II and lpd6803" but they should be similar like other ^^

are you using usb or artnet?
does the second controller show up in the configuration (artnet or usb)?

    i think i figured it out //

i had to setup in the dmx output of MM the second controller to continue from universe 12 to 23 and remap them to 0 to 11 ( like the first controller ) _ and it worked like this .
