    ENTTEC Alternatives

    by NateMac » Sat Jan 26, 2013 4:21 am

I was wondering if anyone has come across any alternatives to the ENTTEC Open DMX Ethernet? Our company is getting ready to move forward with our Projection & LED line of events so we are looking at making a large purchase. At $275 a unit, it's not outrageous, but if there are other cheaper alternatives, I like to see if they are as plug-n-play as the ENTTEC device was with MadMapper.

    I currently came across eDMX:

$150 for single universe, has anyone used these or have any other suggestions?

as long as your device is ArtNet compatible, it should work out of the box with MadMapper.
We currently prefer the Enttec Open DMX ethernet, simply because we have tested it a lot, and it just works.

I just hooked up my Sandbox with madmapper and Modul8 and it works great!
A sexy little thing that can send two universes and has the possible to send a wide arrange of different signals. including Art-net.
Don´t know if this is common with other art-net to DMX Devices, but Sandbox has a very easy program that lets you configere the box art-net univers, ip, ++ in one minute!

Nice to see other hardware working as well...
My new project is the Arduino with an Ethernet Shield to attempt to get working with MadMapper's ArtNet. I've had sporadic success so far, but i have some new WS2811 RGB LEDs coming. Hope I'll have better success with those.

arduino seems to be the best priced method i've seen thus far. plus one can use leds and elwire with an arduino (as my brief research tells me). I've never messed with an arduino, how taxing is it on a MBP? I already use M8, madmapper, quartz and some other random stuff with touch osc over network. I'm not sure my machine can handle an arduino. Do the enttec's draw power from a MBP?
