Madlight, EntTec DMX USB, madmapper 1.4.1

    by soupvisuals » Wed Feb 06, 2013 7:19 am

Wondering if anyone has gotten madlight to work through the Entec DMX USB dongles instead of the ArtNets? garageCube had said this would come in 1.4 and I've emailed them and they confirmed it should work now, but so far I have not gotten a response from my LED par in testing.

Just to cover the obvious, you went into your preferences and changes the DMX Output in MadMapper?

You might want to go into a little more detail on how you've troubleshooted this problem, and any steps you've taken already, and what your setup is. Right now, someone could ask if the USB plug is, cause we don't know any info other then, there is an issue. I'm sure someone on here can help you out.

I've recently tested both the Enttec DMX USB Pro and the MKII version,
they're both recognized and they operate as expected. (you would have only one universe with the MKII version tho').
Plug the usb card before launching MM. Then you should see it recognized in the preferences.

I thought the Mk2 had two universes? Or am I just reading your response wrong?

Ha yes I have set the preferences -> DMX output -> Protocol to "DMX USB PRO" which is the option that comes up. However again the dongle in question is actually the Enttec Open DMX USB.
To the right of that option in preferences however i can not select a madmapper interface, that pull down bar is greyed out. Have also tried two different physical led par lights.

The MKII allows 2 DMX universes outputs,
but in MadMapper only one is implemented.
We'll add it in the future, at some point.

@soupvisuals: did you install the drivers correctly ?
There's no Enttec Open DMX USB.
There's an Open DMX (ODE), that uses an ethernet port (it is an ArtNet card)
and the DMX USB Pro (MKI or MKII), that uses an USB port and the FTDI serial drivers.

The EntTec website says there are no drivers for this for osx unless your running like 10.4 or older, which i am not.
there is an enttec open dmx usb, here's a photo of mine
should the second bar in preferences be greyed out next to USB PRO? ... now 2 days to show time.

    hey, never noticed this one.
my bad, there is, indeed, an Enttec Open DMX Usb.
We currently do not officially support this model.

    We officially support, so far:
    - Enttec Open DMX (ODE) : Artnet to DMX
    - Enttec DMX Usb Pro : USB FTDI based

There are however some drivers for your open DMX USB Pro (at least linked on Enttec's site):
    http://www.enttec.com/dmx_usb/D2XX1.1.10.dmg
    http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm

Did you try to install them ?

    nice beard btw

now that this one's around also will it be officially supported in madmapper? i wanna try madlight and just want to understand if a new dongle is necessary or just waiting, the show this weekend will be fine without madlight.

i did install those drivers earlier in troubleshooting and cigar

unfortunately, incorporating the Enttec Open DMX USB is not in our short term plans.
Each new device requires some amount of work for us. Since we're already supporting other models from the same vendor,
we prefer to assign our time and efforts on developing other features that appear more interesting to us.
(rather than replicating already existing features).

As of MadMapper 1.4.3, the Enttec DMX USB Pro is working OK (MKI version)
For the MKII version , only 1 universe will be available.

I have the Black Enttec DMX USB Pro (I'm assuming this is the Mark I?)
When I plug it into USB its power light blinks, but when I attempt to set the DMX output preference in Madmapper to DMX USB, it has no options in the Madmapper Interface dropdown, and it will not keep the DMX USB setting if I close the preference.

    Any ideas?
