Mapping out curved objects

I have a small project where I am trying to add video elements to a painting. My painter friend has made a few shapes on the canvas for me to fill in, some with curves (including the cartoon looking clouds). I thought it would be easy to fill in the curves, but realized I don't operate the mesh warping well enough for this purpose.

Am I missing something obvious? Or, for curved shapes (a few amoebas, for example) would it make more sense to create a mask in photoshop and use it within a single quad?

there are different approaches.

One is photoshop or After Effects.

The other is import a picture of the drawing and put it in the background (1st layer and lock it)

Then you can use the triangles and make them so small that you narrow the curves.

or you use a quad and "warp" the lines. That is usually the way to deal with curves.

Either you polygon them or you warp them.

Without a screenshot it´s hard to tell and to help.

So I am just guessing what you are trying to do.

Hope this helps you
