I'm new and really need some help

Hello,
I bought mad mapper (latest version) and am running MacPro 16g
When I take a picture from the projector lens area and then try and map the mapping is way off the intended target. I'm using output full screen mode. Is someone willing to give me a basic understanding of how to get started properly? I've watched tutorial after tutorial but they all assume that you are advanced and I'm a beginner. Also what part does projector placement play.
I'm using short throw Optima.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
